As all mechanics, installers, and industry professionals know, a turbocharger is a very delicate and complex mechanism that rarely fails on its own, except after many kilometers. For this reason, it is very important to carefully follow all of the following steps to properly replace and install a turbocharger.

Step 1: Preliminary Inspection

First, a preliminary inspection of the various components is necessary, specifically: 1) Il tubo di carico olio (se rigido) deve essere esente da restringimenti, pieghe e depositi carboniosi. 2) The oil drain pipe must be free of kinks or obstructions. 3) The following must be carefully cleaned of any residue from the old turbo: manifolds, pipes, bellows, and the air filter compartment. 4) The intercooler must be removed and carefully cleaned. 5) The following components must be free of encrustations and carbon deposits: Exhaust system, muffler, EGR valves, catalyst, particulate filter, and other anti-pollution devices.

Step 2: Replacing Components

Once we have ensured the above components are in good condition, we can replace the turbocharger parts, which are: 1) Oil 2) Oil filter 3) Air filter 4) Oil filler pipe, especially if it is flexible (Photo A) 5) Filters on the oil filler pipe fittings (Photo B) 6) Vapor decantation system – Engine vapor vent (Photo C)

Phase 3: Starting the Engine

After replacing the turbocharger components, we can move on to the starting phase, following these instructions: 1-Run the engine using the starter motor, without cranking it, until the oil circuit is pressurized. 2-Start the engine, letting it idle for the first few minutes, then gradually accelerate. 3-Check the oil pressure with a pressure gauge following the vehicle manufacturer’s instructions. It’s important to note that any noise or hissing indicates a malfunction. In this case, stop the engine immediately and check that all components have been cleaned and reassembled correctly.
