The following instructions are not intended to be an installation manual or assembly guide, but simply to provide helpful tips to prevent potential problems when installing the power steering unit.

Step 1: Preliminary Check Before Installing the Power Steering Unit

  1. As all mechanics, installers, and industry professionals know, before replacing a part, it is necessary to identify and correct the causes that led to its failure.
  2. Remove residue from the old unit by replacing the hydraulic oil in the circuit. If dark oil is present, flush the circuit with hydraulic oil (do not reuse).
  3. After flushing, check that both the inside of the circuit and the hoses are thoroughly clean.
  4. Check that the hoses are free of any restrictions caused by kinks, deterioration, crushing, or deposits. If in doubt, it is always advisable to replace the hoses.

Step 2: Assembly and Startup

Once you have verified the above, proceed with the installation and assembly of the power steering unit itself.

  1. Remove any oil seal plugs on the new part. Always be careful, as some plugs may be transparent and therefore not immediately visible.
  2. Secure the power steering unit with its bracket, then secure the pressure and return hoses and start the engine. During this phase, absolutely avoid sliding the power steering unit without first filling it with oil. Slide it only with the engine running, thus preventing the sealing ring, commonly called the oil seal, from being sucked into its housing by the vacuum.
  3. If it is necessary to slide the power steering to center it, it is best to do so very slowly for the reasons mentioned above.
  4. After assembly and starting the engine, rotate the steering wheel a few times. This will release any air still in the circuit. During these rotations, it is good practice to avoid holding the power steering at the end of its travel for extended periods to avoid possible damage to the pump and/or the power steering itself.
