An apparently defective turbocharger may be the result of an underlying engine fault.
Simply replacing the turbocharger may not eliminate the root cause of the problem.

WORK PERFORMED BY DEPROS

The following components in the supplied remanufactured turbocharger have been replaced:

CHRA / ROTATING GROUP
NEW
TURBINE CARTER WITH WASTEGATE SYSTEM
NEW
ACTUATOR
NEW
TURBINE ACTUATOR-CARTER LEVER
NEW

PRELIMINARY VEHICLE CHECKS

In accordance with official BorgWarner diagnostics, any external cause that may have led to the failure must be identified and eliminated prior to installation:

  • INTAKE SYSTEM: air filter, intake circuit, hoses, and pressure line integrity;
  • COMPRESSOR AND INTERCOOLER: cleanliness and absence of foreign objects;
  • EXHAUST: absence of obstructions or leaks upstream of the turbine;
  • OIL CIRCUIT: supply and return lines free from blockages, deformations, and leaks; verify oil pressure;
  • CRANKCASE VENTILATION: check for excessive engine blow-by;
  • FUEL AND COMBUSTION: rule out fuel supply, injection, or ignition faults that could cause high exhaust temperatures;
  • FOREIGN OBJECTS: ensure none are present on the compressor or turbine sides.

WARNING

Installation must be performed exclusively by qualified personnel.
The components are manufactured to tight tolerances and can reach speeds of up to 300,000 rpm.

POST-INSTALLATION FUNCTIONAL CHECKS

INSUFFICIENT PRESSURE Check the wastegate closure, intake/pressure system integrity, exhaust, oil supply, , injection, and engine condition.
EXCESSIVE PRESSURE Check wastegate opening, valve actuation, and fuel supply/injection system settings.
NOISE Check intake and exhaust integrity, foreign objects, oil supply, turbine housing/flap, and bearings.

NOISE, WARNING LIGHTS, AND PERFORMANCE

Essential guidelines for distinguishing between mechanical phenomena and faults requiring vehicle diagnostics and electronic system updates.

NOISE AND MALFUNCTION ARE TWO DISTINCT ISSUES
NOISE – MECHANICAL INTERVENTION REQUIRED
The metallic noise characteristic of this application stems from an inherent trait of the wastegate system, caused by progressive wear on the mechanical components involved in the valve's movement and actuation. In the DEPROS remanufactured turbo, the CHRA, the turbine housing (complete with wastegate system), the actuator, and the connecting linkage are replaced with new parts. This replacement renews the wear-prone mechanical components responsible for the noise.
WARNING LIGHTS, POOR PERFORMANCE, OR IRREGULAR OPERATION
Warning lights, poor engine performance, incorrect boost pressure, or other anomalies observed after installation should not automatically be attributed to the remanufactured turbocharger.
ECU/ECM UPDATE AND CALIBRATION
Before commissioning, it is necessary to identify the vehicle via its VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), check for applicable technical updates, update, reprogram, or calibrate the engine control unit (ECU/ECM), and perform the learning and verification procedures for the turbocharger control system. All operations must be carried out exclusively using official Renault/Dacia diagnostic tools and procedures.
POST-INSTALLATION CHECK
If warning lights, poor performance, or malfunctions persist even after the official Renault/Dacia procedure, perform a comprehensive diagnosis of the vehicle's intake, exhaust, lubrication, fuel/injection, and electronic control systems.

MANDATORY STEP BEFORE HANDOVER

Turbo installation is not considered complete without an electronic check and any necessary updating, reprogramming, or calibration of the ECU/ECM using official Renault/Dacia tools.
