Step 1: Preliminary checks

Before replacing the power steering, it is essential to perform a series of basic checks.

Identify the cause of the failure

Before installing the new component, it is essential to identify and resolve the causes that led to the failure of the previous component. Neglecting this step can also compromise the new replacement.

Cleaning the Hydraulic Circuit

Completely remove residues from the old unit by replacing the hydraulic oil.
If the oil is dark or contaminated, flush the circuit with clean oil (do not reuse).

Checking the circuit condition

After flushing, make sure the entire circuit and pipes are perfectly clean.

Checking the pipes

Check the pipes for:

  • Narrowing
  • Kinks or kinks
  • Signs of wear or deterioration
  • Internal deposits

If in doubt, it is always advisable to replace the pipes.

Step 2: Assembly and commissioning

Once the preliminary checks are complete, you can proceed with the installation:

Removing the Protective Caps

Bleeding the circuit

After starting the engine, rotate the steering wheel a few times to eliminate any air bubbles in the system.

During this step, avoid holding the steering wheel at the end of its travel for prolonged periods, to prevent possible damage to the pump or power steering system.
